-- All terminal illnesses one may have had prior to joining the circus will be eradicated without fear of relapse.
-- Employees can still become temporarily ill (from colds or the flu to certain Sexually Transmitted Diseases). These illnesses can come and go as they would normally.
-- Employees can be injured (anything from a cut while shaving to being run over by a car). If an injury would regularly be fatal, the victim of said injury will die. Otherwise the injury will heal normally.
-- Drug and alcohol use can still effect members of the circus in terms of intoxication, though they will not fatally, dramatically, or permanently affect anyone physically. For example, an alcoholic will not get cirrhosis. Tolerance will increase; a user must increase dosage to continue feeling the same effects over time.
-- Mental illness remains untouched unless there is progression through science or another medium.
-- Employees must remain on the circus grounds 24 hours per day Monday through Saturday. The only employees permitted to leave are directors and those that hang advertisement posters throughout town. On Sundays all staff are permitted to leave the grounds, but they may only go around the city where the circus is located. All staff must return by 5 am Monday morning.
-- The reason for a doctor and nurse on the grounds is to prevent death due to the rule above. As members cannot leave on a whim or need, they cannot go to a hospital or doctor's office any time they are injured regardless of the severity of aforementioned injury.
-- Anyone who attempts to leave will be punished regardless of whether they approach Sombre about it prior to leaving. Though no one is entirely sure what that punishment is, considering those who have tried to leave have always just disappeared, it is understood among members of the circus that it cannot be pleasant.
-- Special leaves of absence are not permitted for any reason, whether it is an employee's mother's funeral or a stay in the psychiatric ward. If a member of the staff would like to visit a certain place, like a hospital or psychiatric ward for example, that is a decision they are allowed to make on their own time. However, they must return to the circus grounds Monday morning, as stated above.
-- Employees can become pregnant and have healthy children as their bodies would normally allow. Unless the child signs a contract, they may leave during the day to attend school and live a somewhat normal life. At 18 they will have to either leave for good or sign the circus' contract and join the ranks of the forever young. It should be noted that Monsieur Sombre rarely allows those that have learned the circus' secrets to leave, if at all. So, the chances of him allowing a grown child to actually leave are slim.
-- The employees' memory capacity and recall ability are increased at the time of joining to avoid Alzheimers and the like. This is done to ensure workers will always continue to be efficient and effective in whatever position they hold within the show.
-- Animals that are part of Le Cirque Noir in a performing capacity are not immortal; however their rate of death is slowed so that they live much longer than usual. Animals that are pets only do not have this benefit.
